Warner Bros evidently saw a team-up movie as more than just a tantalizing possibility, but a viable way of bringing the Superman and Batman franchises out of the development mire. It was soon confirmed that the studio was excited about a script entitled Batman vs Superman, written by Se7en and Sleepy Hollow scribe Andrew Kevin Walker and subsequently "polished" by Akiva Goldsman (Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, A Beautiful Mind), in which the characters would begin as allies, albeit with radically different worldviews, before facing off in a showdown brought about by Bruce Wayne?s familiar desire to avenge the violent killing of a loved one.

Superman, who has been busy wooing his first love, Lana Lang, in Smallville, tries to talk Bruce out of his vengeful ways, an act which ultimately pits the two heroes against each other. Eventually, it transpires that Superman?s nemesis Lex Luthor was behind The Joker?s return, hoping that Batman and Superman would kill each other. Instead, the two heroes unite to defeat first The Joker, and finally Luthor, the man fundamentally behind Elizabeth?s death.
Opinions from Internet script reviewers were divided, either over the details of the Walker and Goldsman drafts, or the very idea of having Batman and Superman go mano a mano. The studio?s swift about-face was based on a number of factors. Firstly, on July 5, Alias creator J. J. Abrams had turned in the first 88 pages of a new stand-alone Superman script, designed to be the first of a trilogy. At that point, Peters, Abrams and Brassel met in the offices of executive vice president for worldwide motion pictures Lorenzo di Bonaventura ? the man behind the Harry Potter and Matrix movies, and a long time champion of Batman vs Superman ? who said that he liked the script (?It had more epic ambition than earlier Superman scripts,? he said later), but that he planned to release Batman vs Superman first. According to Peters, Abrams said, ?You can?t do that,? suggesting that it was akin to releasing When Harry Divorced Sally before When Harry Met Sally.
Both sides had their points: with two iconic heroes for the price of one, Batman vs Superman arguably stood the better chance in a marketplace soon to be crowded with superhero films, ranging from Hulk to Daredevil, and more sequels featuring Spider-Man and The X-Men; however, if the darker sensibility of Batman vs Superman did not connect with audiences, it could effectively kill both franchises before they had had a chance to be revived. At the meeting, di Bonaventura argued in favor of Batman vs Superman; others, however, felt that Abrams?s three-part Superman story had better long-term prospects for toy, DVD and ancilliary sales. Besides, even if the majority had not favoured the Superman script, Horn had the casting vote. ?I said I wanted to do Superman,? he told The New York Times. ?At the end of the day it?s my job to decide what movies we make.?
The plan, Horn later told The Hollywood Reporter, was that Superman, the long-mooted Catwoman spin-off, and ?a Batman origins movie? (presumably Year One) would revive both franchises, paving the way for a team-up movie. ?I?d like to think that each character will evolve so that when we have Batman vs Superman, the meeting of the two will feel more organic,? he said. Peters, the former hairdresser and Batman producer who had toiled through the development of a Superman film for eight years, was moved to tears when Alan Horn phoned to tell him the news. ?I swear I heard the flapping of angel wings when Alan was talking,? he said. Peters, in turn, called Christopher Reeve, who had played Superman in four films between 1978 and 1987, and had recently guest-starred on the small-screen Superman show Smallville, despite a crippling spinal injury he suffered in a fall from a horse. ?He told me that his original idea was to do a film of Superman vs Batman,? Reeve later recalled. ?They were pretty far into it, and then Jon saw that documentary that my son made about me and how five years after the injury I started to move.? According to Reeve, Peters began to rethink the idea: ??Why should [they] have two superheroes fighting?? The movie that Warner Bros is making now will be a much more uplifting and spiritual story.? In August, Warner Bros officially switched off Batman vs Superman?s green light. Days later, on Sept. 4, its greatest champion, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, quit after 12 years at the studio, giving credence to the widespread speculation that Horn vs di Bonaventura ? an epic battle of wills between two of the studios biggest guns over two of its biggest assets ? had contributed to his departure.
Where all this left the Batman franchise was unclear. Almost anyone, it seemed, was invited to apply for the vacancy of the next film?s screenwriter, and even Grant Morrison, author of one of the biggest selling graphic novels of all time, Arkham Asylum, threw his hat into the ring. ?My own movie agent at Creative Artists Agency submitted a treatment I?d entitled Batman: Year Zero, which had a young Batman traveling around the world, slowly assembling the familiar components of his outfit and disguise in the year before returning to Gotham as its protector.? As a change from The Joker or the Penguin, Morrison?s villains were Ra?s al-Ghul and Man-Bat from Denny O?Neil?s widely acclaimed Batman stories of the 1970s. Although Morrison?s application was unsuccessful, the team which was assigned the restoration of the Bat-franchise evidently agreed with his approach, electing to return to Batman?s roots as part of their restoration effort.
It was in early 2003 that Warner Bros revealed the new curator of the Bat-franchise: Christopher Nolan, director of the tricksy Memento and a well-received remake of Scandinavian thriller Insomnia. ?All I can say is that I grew up with Batman,? Nolan commented. ?I?ve been fascinated by him and I?m excited to contribute to the lore surrounding the character. He is the most credible and realistic of the superheroes, and has the most complex human psychology. His superhero qualities come from within. He?s not a magical character.? Although Variety also reported that both Year One and Catwoman ? the latter scripted by John Rogers (The Core), starring Ashley Judd (later to be replaced by Halle Berry) and directed by visual effects veteran Pitof ? were also on the cards, Nolan?s untitled Batman project seemed the most likely to move forward, although it remained unclear which script would form the basis of the film.
Nolan, who knew Batman but was uncertain about his wider comic book context, turned to David S. Goyer, who scripted Dark City, The Crow: City of Angels, the comic book adaptation Blade and its sequels, and unused drafts of Freddy vs Jason, for help with the script. Ironically, Goyer, whose lifelong dream had been to write a Batman movie script, was unavailable, preparing to direct Blade: Trinity ? but agreed to give Nolan some ideas pro bono. As Goyer recalls, ?I said, ?If I did do it, this is what I would do, and you can have my ideas for free.? I talked for about an hour and spitballed a large amount of what the film is, and Chris said, ?Wow, that sounds great.? He went away again for a few more days, [then] I got a call saying, ?You have to do this.?? Goyer carved out the time to write the first draft of the script.
The Nolan-Goyer Batman set out to achieve something no comic book or film had accomplished thus far: tell a definitive origin story, charting the journey from the murder of young Bruce Wayne?s parents all the way to the formation of Batman as a masked vigilante. Many people believe that books are different
new age of spiritual books, even though there are so many books available that are described as new age spiritual books . If you look at the new age and spiritual conditions, we find similarities, where spiritual refers to soul or spirit and the new age has been described as ?of or relating to the consciousness of spiritual movements and awareness. ? New Age books covering health, medicine, philosophy, religion and the occult. And yet, the new age term was coined only in recent decades, mainly from the 1970s. So that begs the question ? is there such thing as a new era
Many so-called New Age books (and spiritual books) that have been written in recent decades are adamant that we are indeed in a new age spiritual era is new in all aspects of what has preceded. However, research on old books and spiritual books philosophy shows that humanity has gone through periods of high enlightenment before ? sometimes inspired metaphysical and spiritual awareness that equals or surpasses our current times. So is it not perhaps a new era as such, but simply a recollection of powers metaphysical, esoteric, parapsychology forgot a source of spiritual inspiration and we all possess but have temporarily. If this is the case, then perhaps a more apt term would be Mind Body Spirit.
Which brings us to another term so-called new age ? parapsychology. Yes, the same philosophy books, which are essentially the belief system or has been accepted as an authoritative account by a group philosophy or school, have similarities with each other and thus to the most recent parapsychology new age spiritual and metaphysical esoteric books. Philosophy books available today, which are scriptures handed over the centuries that are the basic beliefs of many world religions, which have strong similarities with the original, although interpretation of these books over the ages led to contrasting viewpoints. Considering the war that the opposing views of philosophy looking for books through the ages has caused, perhaps this new era of parapsychology, with its metaphysical, esoteric and spiritual messages and books will help break these old belief systems that have divided humanity for so long, especially when united under the slogan of the most acceptable of Mind Body Spirit. The proliferation of self improvement books alone has brought a spiritual awareness to thousands, if not millions, seeking to grow through better acquainted. Old books are being rewritten in more spiritual philosophy a new age terminology and marketed under various terms, not only the new age and spiritual, but not so many books metaphysical esoteric books, new age parapsychology, books, books inspiration self improvement and even philosophy. A growing number of these inspirational books are grouped, on websites and also in physical bookstores, under the label Body Mind Spirit. The overriding influence of these books is, by encouraging readers to deepen Themselves to discover their true spiritual nature and it is encouraging to see so many New Age spiritual parapsychology (Mind Body Spirit) books coming out in increasing each year. Japan's 2011 megaquake reactivated dormant faults
The megaquake that shook the east coast of Japan in March 2011 reactivated dormant faults near Fukushima's beleaguered nuclear reactors, geologists warn.
"A strong quake may occur in the Futaba fault, only 5 to 6 kilometres away," says Dapeng Zhao of Tohoku University. The fault runs parallel to the coast, right past both of Fukushima's nuclear plants.
Zhao's team used data from more than 6000 quakes between June 2002 and October 2011 to make a 3D map of the crust in the area that suffered the largest aftershock recorded on land after the March megaquake: a quake on 11 April in Iwiki. The images show fluid rising through the Pacific plate as it sinks under Japan. They say the March quake transferred stress to surrounding faults, causing them to adjust in aftershocks. The fluid in the Iwiki fault lubricated it, causing it to slip almost immediately in a large, magnitude 7 aftershock (Solid Earth, DOI: 10.5194/se-3-43-2012).
Seismic readings from the Fukushima area reveal stresses and rising fluids similar to those found at Iwiki, so "the possibility of quake generation becomes much larger than before the 11 March quake", says Zhao.
A magnitude 7 quake would release far less energy than the magnitude 9 megaquake, but because the Futaba fault is so close to Fukushima, it would shake both power stations more strongly.

22 Carnival cruise passengers robbed in Mexico

Twenty-two passengers on?Carnival Splendor?were robbed at gunpoint Thursday while on a ship-sponsored tour in?Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.?
At least one Mexican media outlet said the passengers were returning by bus to their ship at approximately 5 p.m. after spending time in El Nogalito, a tourist area known for its lush natural setting. Masked assailants stopped the bus and robbed the cruisers of their money, watches, cameras and other valuables.?
There were no injuries and all passengers were returned safely to the ship, Carnival said in a statement.?Numerous authorities were notified and responded to investigate, as well as assist the affected passengers, Carnival said.?
According to?informador.mx.com, the bandits have yet to be apprehended.?
Carnival also apologized to the passengers for the "unfortunate and disturbing event" and said it is working with passengers to reimburse them for lost valuables and assist with lost passports or other forms of identification.?
?The tour in question ? a guided nature trail excursion sold and booked through the line ? has been suspended until further notice.?

Rob Manfred, MLB?s executive VP of labor relations, released the following statement late this afternoon, saying that the collector handled Braun?s urine sample in ?professional and appropriate manner? and that the current testing program is not ?fatally flawed.? He also denied that the leak of Braun?s positive drug test came from the commissioner?s office.
?Major League Baseball runs the highest quality drug testing program of any professional sports organization in the world.? It is a joint program, administered by an independent program administrator selected by the Commissioner?s Office and the MLBPA.
?With regards to the breach of confidentiality regarding this case, both the Commissioner?s Office and the MLBPA have investigated the original leak of Ryan Braun?s test, and we are convinced that the leak did not come from the Commissioner?s Office.
?The extremely experienced collector in Mr. Braun?s case acted in a professional and appropriate manner.? He handled Mr. Braun?s sample consistent with instructions issued by our jointly retained collection agency. The Arbitrator found that those instructions were not consistent with certain language in our program, even though the instructions were identical to those used by many other drug programs ? including the other professional sports and the World Anti-Doping Agency.
?Our program is not ?fatally flawed.?? Changes will be made promptly to clarify the instructions provided to collectors regarding when samples should be delivered to FedEx based on the arbitrator?s decision.? Neither Mr. Braun nor the MLBPA contended in the grievance that his sample had been tampered with or produced any evidence of tampering.?
And here?s a statement from MLBPA executive director Michael Weiner, also in response to Braun?s comments:
?Our Joint Drug Program stands as strong, as accurate and as reliable as any in sport, both before and after the Braun decision. The breach of confidentiality associated with this matter is unfortunate but, after investigation, we are confident that it was not caused by the Commissioner?s Office, the MLBPA or anyone associated in any way with the Program. In all other respects, the appeals process worked as designed; the matter was vigorously contested and the independent and neutral arbitrator issued a decision deserving of respect by both bargaining parties.
?As has happened several times before with other matters, this case?has focused the parties? attention on an aspect of our Program that can be improved. After discussions with the Commissioner?s Office, we are confident that all collections going forward will follow the parties? agreed-upon rules.?

The Public University of Navarre (UPNA) and CENER (National Centre for Renewable Energy) are taking part in a joint research project on renewable energy and based on electricity microgrids which enable enhancing energy efficiency, reducing contaminant emissions, increasing safety in supply and minimising electricity losses. The project is co-financed by the Government of Navarre, and by the European Union through its FEDER Funds.
The project, known as "Design, development and implementation of microgrids in Navarre", aims to generate technology and knowledge in the field of generated energy supply and microgrids, which will subsequently enable their transfer to the industrial infrastructure in Navarre. Two electricity microgrids have already been thus installed: one, at the CENER Head Office on the Rocaforte industrial estate in Sangesa, Navarre; the other is on the Arrosadia Campus of the UPNA.
Microgrids even for cities
Microgrids are defined as a series of electrical loads, elements of generated power supply (wind, photovoltaic, fuel cell, microturbine, etc.) and storage elements (batteries, hydrogen, inertia wheel, compressed air, supercondensers, etc.) which, connected to the electric grid by means of a single point of connection, are all linked through a strategy which manages both the flow of energy within the grid as well as the interchange of power with the general supply grid. In this way, microgrids with single family dwellings, offices, industrial estates, blocks of flats, neighbourhoods or even cities can be established.
Of the two microgrids in the project, that of the UPNA, located at the Renewable Energy Laboratory of its Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, is aimed at generic applications and enables emulating and managing various profiles for power generation and consumption, such as single family dwellings, office buildings and small industries. It also includes the capacity to manage, in a co-ordinated manner, thermal systems that normally exist in these types of applications (heating, refrigeration and hot running water), thus forming, in the widest sense, an electrothermal microgrid. Its maximum renewable generated power is 20 kW, obtained from a wind-powered source (a wind turbine) and another photovoltaic one. Involving generator elements that can be managed, it has a 25 kW power generating set and a 5 kW fuel cell system. As regards storage, it has a 72 kWh bank of batteries, a 35.2 Nm3 hydrogen storage system and a bank of 83 F and 194 V supercondensers. Moreover, it has a programmable electronic load that enables the scale reproduction of any consumption profile.
Energy for Rocaforte industrial estate in Sangesa
The CENER microgrid is located at the Wind Turbine Test Laboratory (LEA) and is aimed at industrial applications, supplying part of the electric loads of the LEA installations themselves, as well as of part of the public street lighting of this industrial estate in Sangesa (Navarre). This microgrid boasts a representative selection of power generation, both from renewable sources (notably a roof-installed photovoltaic field and a wind turbine with 25 kW and 20 kW powers respectively), as well as systems of conventional generation, including a 48 kW diesel generator and a 30 kW gas microturbine.
Both installations have great flexibility from the conception and design phase to its launching and coming on-stream, enabling them to operate in different ways and under different settings and thus meet the demands of a top-level test bank. Also notable are the advanced systems of monitoring and control that have been developed, data gathering and registering for each and every one of the relevant electric means at the installations and which, in accord with the corresponding management algorithms, govern and supervise each one of the subsystems making up the microgrids (generation, storage and consumption). In this way they manage to establish a balance between energy generated and energy consumed, as well as the co-ordinated and efficient operation of the microgrids, whether operating connected to the electricity grid or in isolated mode.
The target of both installations is, effectively, to demonstrate the viability of microgrids as a comprehensive, integrated means of energy supply, both for industrial and residential environments, as well as serving as a test bank and laboratory for related technologies. Likewise, it will be possible to draw important conclusions enabling progress to be made in the definition of the standards and procedures for the operation of and communication between the bodies involved in the supply of grid electric energy, as well as defining the needs demanded by the incorporation and integration of these microgrids.

LG unveils style-focused Optimus L3, L5 and L7 ahead of MWC
Following the recent announcents of the Optimus Vu and Optimus LTE Tag, LG has taken the wraps off three more Android smartphones ahead of next week's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Optimus L3, L5 and L7 make up what the manufacturer calls its "L-style" series -- a series of smartphones for design-conscious consumers.
LG has outlined a new design philosophy to go along with these new products -- put simply, it's hoping you're after a slimmer, squarer handset of metal construction. From today's press release --
"L-Style’s design philosophy is comprised of five aesthetic elements: Modern Square Style for a comfortable grip, Floating Mass Technology for a slimmer look, Seamless Layout for a more intuitive arrangement of keys, Harmonized Design Contrast utilizing metallic accents and Sensuous Slim Shape that naturally draws one’s attention."
Eagle-eyed readers may remember the entry-level L3 from its brief appearance on a Swedish retailer's site a few weeks back -- the device was said to run Android 2.3 on a 3.2-inch display. That's been confirmed as part of LG's announcement today, though detailed hardware specs for all three devices are conspicuously absent.
In the absence of a spec list, we'll have to guess that L5 and the L7 are mid to high-end products. Both run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (behind LG's Optimus UI, of course), but the only specs LG is confirming at this stage are the screen sizes -- the L5 is a 4-incher, while the L7 is a little larger at 4.3. LG says the L3 is due in Europe this March, while the L5 and L7 will follow in the first half of the year.

Getty ImagesAs the NFL continues to grow, it?s presence in Green Bay becomes more unique.? The small-market, publicly-owned team has thrived on the field for much of the last two decades, even as the sport has exploded to new levels of revenue and sophistication.
But the balance between a community feel and a corporate attitude can be difficult to strike, as Pete Dougherty and Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette write in an new article that explores the manner in which recent changes to the organization could affect its long-standing ties to the city and the people who live there.
?[I]n the arms race for revenue, the Packers must remain rooted in the small community that spawned the team and has kept it alive through sometimes dire financial times for the last 93 years,? Dougherty and Demovsky write.
An eventual disconnect between the team and the community could have dire consequences.? One unnamed source tells Dougherty and Demovsky that, if a local stadium referendum had failed in 2000, the Packers would have moved by now.? ?If you don?t have the right players on the board and in management, there aren?t going to be an awful lot of people that will work to save [the team],? the source said.
That seems like a bit of a stretch.? With a season-ticket waiting list that extends for decades, the public in Green Bay will vote in favor of whatever needs to be done to help the team survive, and thrive, in the only hometown its ever known.
As to the tension between the community and the front office, which given the recent resignation of Jason Weid doesn?t have a Wisconsin native in one of the top two jobs with the organization, Dougherty and Demovsky point to the relationship between the team and its Hall of Fame, an independent body run by local cirizens.? When the team recently suggested taking over the Hall of Fame, its executive committee and board of directors were reportedly ?outraged.?
?The franchise has to be careful it doesn?t get too big and think, ?We don?t need people,?? an NFL source with ties to the Packers said.? ?If they lose sight of that and think everything?s hunky-dory here and [think] ?We don?t have to worry about that,? that?s an enormous mistake.? [There?s been] a connection with this team and community literally from Day 1 in 1919, and there?s not another community-team relationship like this in any sport.? Not just the National Football League, in any sport.? That?s to be treasured and is part of the unique tradition, and has to be honored.?
But the reality is that folks in Green Bay ultimately want to see the team win.? Though there may be grumbling (especially when the team isn?t winning, which doesn?t happen all that often anymore), the fans ultimately will defer to the folks who run the team.? At some point there could be a grassroots effort to hire new management, but the fans never will turn their back on the franchise.
And for that reason the franchise will continue to compete, even as the dollars get bigger and the business concepts become more convoluted.

The Government of Singapore wants to advance the course of its local industries to emerging markets and transforming economies. Many countries assist local corporations expand through cross-border financing through state-owned export-import banks (EXIMs) and export credit agencies (ECAs). The United States has the Export-Import Bank of the United States. Japan has the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), even China and South Korea has their own.The Government of Singapore is addressing the country?s restricted capacity for big ticket and long-tenure project financing needs in cross-border financing. To address the issue, the Government of Singapore is pushing for the creation of the Project Finance Corporation (PFC). The PFC is expected to be operational in the latter half of 2012 and will be backed by a number of stable financial institutions, including Temasek Holdings. The PFC will also include Japan?s Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Standard Chartered Bank PLC, and Singapore DBS Group Holdings Ltd.
Ultimately, the goal of the proposed PFC is to plugs gaps in the financing of larger, long-tenure overseas projects.
