Hey Alexis! I'm headed to New York for the very first time in a couple of weeks, and I am pumped! I'm staying in the Theater District. I was wondering what some of the must-dos are, as far as food and sights go. I want to see some touristy stuff, but also want to see real stuff, and I plan to eat my way through the city. You seem to know a lot about both, and I trust you. Can you help a girl out?
That?s very exciting, I hope my lovely city treats you well!?
Below is a list of some things to eat in some areas that might be of interest to you.
Theater District/Hell?s Kitchen - there are a ton of great restaurants up 9th ave in the 40s and 50s. Try out Gazala Place (byob Middle Eastern food) and Nook (byob, very small but great dinner and brunch). Eatery is also a great place for a pre-show meal.
West Village and Chelsea - not too far of a walk from where you?re staying there is a boatload of great food. Try Rockinghorse Cafe for upscale Mexican and El Quinto Pino for awesome tapas in Chelsea. You can stop in at Dos Toros for a quick taco or sit down at the Meatball Shop in the West Village, or grab a quick panini at ?ino.?
Nolita and Soho?- This is one of the areas I frequent the most for dinner. Rubriso (Italian), Tacombi at Fonda Nolita (tacos), and Parm (Italian sandwiches, low key) are all absolutely incredible.?
East Village?- my home away from home. Caracas is killer and has amazing arepas, Butter Lane has my favorite cupcakes, and there are a bunch of great, not-too-expensive Italian places in this neighborhood (like Cacio e Pepe, Via della Pace, and Supper). Also, try Iron Sushi. Looking for a great low key brunch? Try Mudspot on 9th.
Gramercy/Murray Hill - my neighborhood and where I spend a good chunk of my time. My favorite pizza (Posto or Vezzo) and sushi (Umi) restaurants are in this neighborhood and I couldn?t recommend them more.?
Sights - truthfully I?ve done anything really touristy in New York. I spend a good deal of my time in Madison Square Park (there?s a cool lights/art exhibit right now), the High Line is always a visitor must, and in Central Park. I genuinely just enjoy walking around the city and taking everything in.
Hope you have an amazing visit! Take photos!
