Hockey New | Your 2011 Stanley Cup Update ? Articles Miracle

If you are an avid ice hockey fan, you?ve probably been glued to the television or radio keeping up with all of the National Hockey League action. Maybe you?ve even downloaded a few apps for your iPhone, iPod or Android smartphone in order to keep up with the latest news and interact with other diehard fans. The plethora of information might even get overwhelming after awhile, considering just how much of it there is. Worry no longer. We?ve got a quick snapshot of the action that?s taken place up until this point in the tournament right here for you.

This year for the 2011 Stanley Cup playoffs the games began on April 13. The Finals Game 1 is going to be held on June 1. The last possible game of the tournament is Game 7 and will be held on June 15, if necessary. 16 teams qualified after the regular NHL season to play for the finals. This year it was the Vancouver Canucks who were champions in the Western Conference, while the Washington Capitals won the Eastern Conference. The Eastern Conference is also comprised of the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers. The 7 other qualifying teams in the Western Conference include the San Jose Sharks, Detroit Red Wings, Anaheim Ducks, Nashville Predators, Phoenix Coyotes, Los Angeles Kings and Chicago Blackhawks.

In each playoff round, the highest remaining seed (or team) in each conference plays the lowest remaining seed. Home ice advantage is given to the higher seed. So, for example, in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals, the top seed Washington Capitals played the lowest seed New York Rangers. The Capitals won their game set, as did the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning. In the Western Conference, the Vancouver Canucks, San Jose Sharks, Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators came out on top. In the Semi-finals, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Boston Bruins both won their games, while the Vancouver Canucks and the San Jose Sharks won in the Western Conference Semi-finals. In the Conference Finals, it was the Boston Bruins and the Vancouver Canucks that came out on top. This means that both of these teams are set to begin Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Wednesday June 1. Both teams won their games with a total of 4 overall points, although the Vancouver Canucks seemed to have had a stronger offense, allowing their opponent to only score 1 point total, as opposed to the Bruins having allowed their opponent 3 points. One more day remains until the Finals get underway, and the only thing that?s certain is that it promises to be an exciting match-up
